Hello one and all!!! NETS-I, III

Hello! Hello! My name is Patricia Crowley and I am a native Escondido, CA resident. I've gone to school in Escondido for all of k-12. I attended Felicita Elementary, where I made some of the friends that i still have today. I followed that up by attending Del Dios Middle School where I was exposed to whole new variety of people and experiences. I graduated from San Pasqual High School in 2005, but the experience I gained from that place and friends I made will last for the rest of my life. I have been attending Cal State San Marcos since fall 2005, making this my "Super Senior" year. I though college was supposed to be done in four years?! While going to school here I have been majoring in history, a subject I have loved studying since I was a little girl. The classes I have been able to take have been amazing! The information that is offered ranges from the boring stuff to the really cool things that keep the topics interesting.

Growing up in the generation that I am has given me many opportunities with technology...for this being the technological age my life has technology everywhere. I can't even leave the house without my cell phone anymore!!! I rememeber my first use of technology was the Super Nintendo playing Super Mario Brothers with my older sisiter. When fourth grade rolled around, the awesome program of Oregon Trails entered my life. Every week for the entire school year, my fourth grade class would head down to the computer lab to play Oregon Trail and to learn what the life on the trail was like. In fifth grade we has a computer in our classroom where on a schedule rotation after lunchtime we were allowed to play Gizmos and Gadgets. In sixth grade at Del Dios, each sixth grader was required to take the exploritory wheel. This meant all sixth graders spent six weeks in one of the six exploritory classes. One of these classes was the computer class where we were taught to use Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and the Internet. From that point on, the use of technology has been prevelent in my life. Little did I know then, it was the beinging to having technoogy integrate into my life.

In today's educational world, technology has had a huge influence in the classroom. Students have some of the most sophicticated technologies out there. From cell phones that are like small computers to ipods that have internet access, technology is literally in the palms of their hands. The use of technology in the classroom is becoming such an important aspect of teaching and as future educators it is important for us to be up to date with the technology of today's world. Being able to incorporate PowerPoint presentations, projects that get the students involved using technology, and having access to the most recent information is crucial in today's classroom. For me, history is ever changing from the new discoveries made everyday. The College of Education's mission statement emphasizes innovative research as a part of what becoming a teacher is about finding the latest research and information out there to teach our students. Having access to the Internet and knowing how to navigate the Internet will give me the latest information on historical events. This would not only keep me informed but it will allow me to give my students the most recent/current historical information.

  1. Hello, Patricia.
I envy your ease and comfort with using technology. Since I haven't grown up with technology, it's a rather intimidating challenge for me to feel comfortable using it. It was a relief when I found I was able to access your blog and actually enter a comment.
Are you planning to complete a single subject credential in History? I agree with you that history is an ever-changing field. The Internet is an invaluable tool for bringing history to life for many students.
All the best to you as you pursue your teaching career.

  3. Hi Patricia! I think that it is great that you have so much experience with technology. Sometimes I forget what a large part of life it has become. Although I am from the technological age as well I don't feel like my skills or lack there of would lead you to such conclusions. However, I will say that I was more of a Sonic the hedge hog kind of girl over Super Mario Brothers!

Hello Patricia!! I also grew up in the technological age and use technology everyday!!! It's crazy how much technology has changed the way people live, and the fact we both can't live without it says a lot! :) I have to say when the Oregon Trail came out, my parents had to limit my computer time because I wouldn't get off of it! I thought that game was the cooolest thing invented, although I never made it through the trail alive!! haha

Hi Patricia, It sounds like your school district was really good at incorporating technology into your curriculum. The fact that you learned microsoft office in sixth grade is awesome, My school did not have any programs like this. I think this class is going to be a breeze for you. I agree with you I cannot handle it if I do not have my phone for one day because that is my main form of communication with emails, work and family and friends, I would be lost with out it.
